What is MBSR?

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

MBSR is a 8-week psycho-educational group meditation program

It is OHIP Covered with referral from your family doctor

  • It can help you:
    • Learn to calm your mind and body
    • Cope with stress, pain and/or illness
    • Develop practical skills and the capacity for greater calm, a more skillful response to stress and improved wellbeing
  • Evidence suggests that the greatest learning comes to those participants willing/able to include 45 minutes – 1 hour of daily home based practice.

Benefits

This program has been delivered for over 30 years as treatment for:

  • Depression and anxiety (especially relapse prevention)
  • Stress and stress-related illnesses
  • Cancer and grief
  • Chronic disease
  • Research has demonstrated lasting benefits from MBSR including fewer worries, better sleep, lower blood pressure and lasting decreases in emotional and physical symptoms worsened by chronic stress.
  • A recent Harvard study has shown measurable changes in the structure of the brain in regions associated with memory, sense of self, empathy and stress after 8 weeks of this practice.

Process

1.    Send me an email at jackie@kealaliving.com to let me know you are interested.  You will receive more information about the program and an intake questionnaire.

2.    Your family physician faxes a referral to (289) 714-2518. ***If you are unable to get a referral from your family physician due to COVID-19, exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis.***

3.    After I have received and reviewed your completed intake questionnaire and referral from your family physician, you may be contacted for a 45 minute individual assessment with Dr. Ang to determine your goals, needs and eligibility.

4.    After the initial consultation / program acceptance, you can choose to sign up for the MBSR program.

5.    Your Journey Begins!

Is MBSR Right for Me?

While meditation is a powerful tool for transformation, depending on your current health status and wellbeing, there may be reasons why a formal meditation program may not be appropriate for you at this exact time.

To ensure that you are able to gain the most out your commitment, all participants must be assessed by Dr. Ang (intake questionnaire and/or appointment). Assessments will be booked individually once referral from your family doctor has been received.

Cost?

  • This program is covered by OHIP with referral from your family physician 
    • You may see other MBSR programs being offered at out of pocket cost, but because Dr. Ang is a licensed MD, your doctor can make a referral and it will be covered by OHIP
  • You must attend all 8 sessions for the program to be OHIP covered
    • Missed classes must be paid out of pocket at $75 per session
    • Early program drop out is subject to a fee of $450
